Safety
refrigerators are designed for the safe, cold storage of volatile
fluids (ether, acetone, methanol, etc.) in a non-volatile/non-explosive
location (OSHA Class I, Division II location). Available in
3 sizes, safety refrigerators look and cost about the same as
LABORATORY
refrigerators, but offer these safeguards to eliminate the potential
for sparking or arcing inside or around the chamber: The ST72GD
is shown here.
- The
interior fan motor is removed from the chamber
- Explosion-safe
incandescent lighting replaces fluorescent lamps
- The
condensing unit is top-mounted to keep electrical components
more than 48" (122 cm) off the floor
- Doors
are gliding types or, if hinged, have grounded gasketing
and no electric door connections
