Refrigerators

Laboratory Refrigerators

Classic, simple cabinet design with white, gray or black powder-coat finish and premium fabrication combine with high quality refrigeration engineering to provide a reliable, long lasting laboratory refrigerator. Chilled air briskly whisks throughout the chamber to maintain temperature at 4°C, ±1°C, when measured in liquid at the sensor. Adjustable, fully supported shelves (not the cantilevered type) each hold up to 125 lbs (57 kg) of evenly distributed weight. Laboratory refrigerators are available in 11 sizes and they may be fully accessorized to suit the application and meet the budget. Please look over our accessories sheet to see the long list of options.

Constant Temperature Refrigerators

Constant temperature refrigerators are guaranteed to maintain the USP-quality storage conditions specified for 2-8°C refrigerators. These models are factory set to 5°C, and the temperature of the air inside the chamber does not get colder than 2°C or warmer than 8°C. They stand alone among scientific refrigerators in this regard, because most others have air temperatures that vary from 0-10°C during the refrigeration cycle. Such temperature swings are not acceptable when storing small volumes of liquid (vaccines, insulin, and other pharmaceuticals) because the thermal weight of the material is too small to dampen the effect of wide temperature variations. Constant Temperature Refrigerators were developed to meet the need for 2-8°C storage. They can be mapped with temperature sensors throughout and will meet the USP validation requirements.

Safety Refrigerators

Flammable liquids such as methanol, acetone, ether, and others should be stored in a safety refrigerator rather than a lab refrigerator to reduce the risk of fire and explosion due to sparks between fluorescent lights/fan motor and the volatile gases these fluids generate. Safety refrigerators have explosion-safe incandescent lights and air circulation fans driven by a rotor from an exterior motor. No electrical source on these models is less than 48” off the floor, per OSHA requirements. They are designed for the safe, cold storage of volatile fluids in an OSHA Division II location (non-volatile, non-explosive rooms). Three models are available and most options from the Accessories Sheet may be added to Safety Refrigerators.

Pharmacy Refrigerators

Pharmacy Refrigerators have all the features needed to store medicines at the correct temperature. They come with a large digital display for easy reading from afar. Temperature data is stored on a mini SD card, which allows you to review the chamber’s historical temperature performance graphically. Also, a high/low temperature alarm alerts personnel to temperature excursions (e.g. if the door is left open too long, or a power outage occurs), and the alarm relay can be easily connected to a lab or pharmacy monitoring system. These refrigerators have glass doors, and the larger (2- and 3-door) models come with your choice of hinged (SD) or gliding (GD) doors. Many options are available including additional shelves, drawers, solid doors, door locks, and full stainless steel con- struction. Please look over our accessories sheet for a complete listing of available options.

Pass-Thru Pharmacy Refrigerators

Pass-thru pharmacy refrigerators have sets of doors on both the front and back faces of the chamber. Typicallythedoorsarethehingedtype(swinging) whichtightlyseal intherefrigeratedairtohelp maintain critical temperature uniformity. However, gliding doors offer a space advantage in tight passage ways and are often preferred on one side of the unit. Pass-thru pharmacy refrigerators

have an easy-to-readdigital display. An access port located in the chamber ceiling allows for sensor penetration and the cooling coils are electrofin coated to protect them from some harsh sanitizers. Frequently requested options, such as a stainless steel interior or exterior, trim kit, and chart recorder can be found on our accessories sheet.

Chromatography Refrigerators for Protein Purifiers

Updated to accommodate the use of protein purifiers inside the chamber, our chromatography refrigerators can remove the heat of devices producing up to 400 watts of heat and still keep the research materials at5.5°C without overworking the refrigeration system*. They are equipped with two access ports and one duplex outlet that functions as an extension cord for equipment such as protein purifiers. Three levels of shelving, adjustable every 1⁄2”, are also included. Casters, installed after the refrigerator is moved into your lab, allow the cabinet to roll away from the wall for access to the power cord or compressor cavity.

Freezers

-20°C Manual Defrost Freezer

Packed with enough cooling power to maintain -20° C throughout with ±2°C temperature uniformity, this 25 ft3 freezer has six epoxy coated shelves to optimize storage capacity and a digital microprocessor to display the temperature. The chamber is sized to slide through door frames and plugs into a standard wall outlet. A floor drain with tubing attached is included for defrosting. Options such as interior circulating fan for ± 0.5°C uniformity, extra shelves, door lock, hi/low alarm with battery back-up or relay, temperature chart recorder, or stainless steel exterior construction are available.

Incubators

Refrigerated Incubators

Refrigerated incubators have a temperature range of 2-50°C, ± 1°C in air, measured at the sensor. These versa- tile chambers can be adapted to create environments requiring vibration resistance, complete darkness, intense lighting, or a combination of variables. A microprocessor controls and displays the chamber temperature and high and low temperature mechanical failsafes protect chamber contents in the unlikely event of a temperature excursion. Turn to our Accessories Sheet to select options you may want to add to the basic models for your specific application.

Non-Refrigerated Incubators

Applications with temperature requirements in the 30-60°Crange do not need the refrigeration components on a refrigerated incubator. These heat-only incubators provide temperature control with ±0.5°Ctemperature uniformity throughout the chamber. Options such as access ports, A/V alarm, chart reorder and many more are available.

Humidified Incubators

If your research requires warm temperatures, controlled additive humidity (>60% RH), and little or no light – these chambers may meet your needs. With an operating temperature range of 18-50°C, ±1°C measured at the sensor, and three humidity source options to choose from, these chambers provide the perfect environment for a wide range of uses, including ninhydrin testing, drywall (gypsum) stability, cement curing stability, and product/packag- ing shelf life testing. Chamber conditions are monitored and displayed digitally on twin microprocessors. Air flows vertically up through the shelves, and interior lighting allows viewing or product identification through the glass doors. The rugged stainless steel cabinet rolls easily on casters. To customize this product, select options from the Accessories Sheet to augment these features:

Growth Chambers (Drosophila and Insect, Plant and Seed Germination, Rodent, Protein Crystallization)

Diurnal Plant Growth or Seed Germination Chamber

Developed with Mother Nature in mind, these chambers offer digitally controlled temperature and lighting day/ night cycles to simulate the nurturing environment seeds and plants need for successful growth. The standard mod- els shown below feature clock controlled temperature (hi/low) and lighting (on/off) suitable for studying many plant species. These chambers have a temperature range of 2-50°C, ± 1°C at the sensor, and failsafes to protect the chamber. For plants or experiments with more rigorous requirements, many options can be selected from the Accessories Sheet…the temperature control can be stepped up to a multi-point “ramp and soak” microprocessor, the number of lights can be increased (vertically, horizontally, or both), fresh air intake installed, LED lighting sub- stituted, additive RH included, or horizontal air flow ducts added for better temperature uniformity under the lights.

Plant Tissue Culture Chambers

Our Model TCS33SD was designed for micropropagating Arabidopsis thaliana or other species from plant tissue cultures in tightly controlled temperature and lighting conditions. The chamber has four slide out shelves, with low velocity conditioned air delivered uniformly under each shelf from a louvered plenum running down the rear wall of the chamber and extending under each shelf. The louvers are adjustable so that very tight temperature uniformity can be achieved throughout the chamber at different temperatures (air density changes with temperature). There are six fixed lamp positions over each shelf to deliver high intensity visible light, visible/black light combinations, or other light combinations that can be stepped on/off. The highly reflective white walls increase the effectiveness of the lamps, as the lamps are sized to reach fully across each shelf. A free floating temperature sensor can be placed at the level of the research material in the center of the shelf, so the correct temperature is delivered with plus or minus 1°C accuracy. The chamber can be run at temperatures as low as 7°C with lights on (for vernaliza- tion studies). It is also capable of functioning as an incubator, reaching temperatures of 40°C or higher, if needed.

Drosophila and Small Insect Chambers

Drosophila chambers offer a comfortable and controlled environment for raising, breeding or experimenting with fruit flies, mosquitos, sand flies and other insects. These chambers have a 15-60°C temperature range, with digital control and display and temperature failsafes to protect the chamber. Casters, epoxy-coated wire shelves and a 60°C mite cycle are standard features on all models. In addition, there are two types of refrigeration systems to choose from: standard R134A vapor cycle with Electrofin coated coil or thermoelectric (Peltier) cooling.

Because different insect species, or research with them, demand differing levels of temperature/humidity/lighting, three levels of parameter control are offered on most size chambers. When requesting a price quotation, please specify the model and level that interests you.

Rodent Incubators

These chambers offer a temperature and lighting controlled environment with 0-15 fresh air exchanges per hour (adjustable) for housing caged rodents. A long list of options allows the individual researcher to tailor the chamber to fit the required parameters.

Protein Crystal Growth Chambers

Protein crystals have been grown in our chambers for over 20 years. The uniform temperature and low vibration environment these models provide allows for optimum crystalline development.

Ten lipped stainless steel trays per door offer 38 or 75 ft2 of shelf space, with horizontal air flow across each tray. Microprocessor temperature control combined with horizontal air flow maintains uniformity to ±1°C of setpoint. A hi/low alarm monitors chamber temperature and electronic failsafes shut it down to preserve temperature in the rare event of a temperature excursion. These models sit on vibration absorbing pads to isolate them from floor vibrations, and metal to metal contact inside the chamber is also dampened. Options such as a chart recorder, RS-232 or re-transmits for computer monitoring and recording, solid doors, access ports, lockable Plexiglas©control cover, etc. are available.

Stability Chambers

Temperature Only or Temperature/Humidity Stability Chambers

Designed to provide controlled temperature or temperature/humidity environments for shelf life testing of cosmeceutical, nutriceutical and pharmaceutical products and packaging, these chambers offer FDA and ICH compliance at a reasonable price. Each chamber has a chart recorder to record parameter variations and an alarm to monitor chamber performance. Conditioned air flows horizontally through louvered portholes that balance air pressure for even distribution across each tray. Ten levels of stainless steel lipped trays offer 37.5 or 72 ft2 (3.5 or 7 m2) of storage space, depending on the size of the model. The stainless steel cabinet has heated double-glass doors (optional solid) for quick product identification to minimize door-ajar disruptions. Both the chamber door(s) and control panel are lockable. Options available include RS-232 ports or retransmit outputs for remote monitoring (instead of the chart recorder and alarm), and ultra-pure DI water re-circulation systems for applications where high quality water is not available.

Photostability Chamber

Photostability chambers provide high intensity lighting in the 300-700 nm range for pharmaceutical stability studies conducted at constant temperature (25°C) according to ICH guidelines. Each shelf has a bank of 10 lights that produce uniform lighting (±10%) across a large circular area on the shelf. The banks combine black and cool white fluorescent bulbs to satisfy the ICH definition for Option II lighting. At a distance of about 8” from the lights, average light intensity is approximately 10,000 lux for visible light and 10 w/m2 for black light. Four light switches control the light banks, and a black light digital timer allows the black light portion of the testing to be curtailed while the visible light portion of the study continues to completion. Temperature failsafes and lockable solid doors protect the study from temperature excursions and light disruption. Accessories such as an A/V hi-low alarm, chart recorder, or access port for remote monitoring are popular options.
