Particle Characterization
Nanobrook Series
The NanoBrook Series is a Configurable Platform for Particle Sizing and Zeta Potential Measurements
The NanoBrook Series size and zeta potential analyzers incorporate all you need for fast, routine, sub-micron measurements of size and zeta potential. Based on the principles of Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) for particle sizing and distribution, and based on doppler velocimetry (electrophoretic light scattering or ELS) for zeta potential measurement, most measurements only take a minute or two. The instrument also includes Phase Analysis Light Scattering (PALS) measurements for samples with low mobilities.
BI-DCP High Resolution Particle Sizing Disc Centrifuge
Based on first principles, the BI-DCP is the only optical disc centrifuge that measures particle size without calibration. This high resolution instrument can resolve peaks as close as a 13% size differential and quantify distribution accurately. Two possible methods are available: homogenous or line start.
DLS Dynamic & Static Light Scattering System
Brookhaven Instruments’ BI-200SM system opens the door to the rich fields of exploration of both Static Light Scattering (SLS) and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS).
The BI-200SM Research Goniometer System provides access to these studies with an automatic, modular and versatile system. It is a precision instrument designed for exacting scattering measurements. Based on a special turntable with precision ball bearings and stepping motor, the BI- 200SM’s modern design and quality construction guarantee precise measurements due to the wobble-free movement of the detector. It is field proven in thousands of laboratories. It is ideal for molecular studies and submicron particle sizing.
BI-870 Dielectric Constant Meter
Measurement of dielectric constants has never been so easy with the BI-870
Simply insert the probe in the liquid to be measured, adjust the two controls on the front panel and read the dielectric constant from the display. The BI-870 can accurately measure in low and high dielectric solvents, including mixed liquids and solutions.
The BI-870 has two selectable sensitivity ranges: 1-20 and 1-200. Absolute accuracy is ± 2%, while repeatability and linearity accuracy is better than 0.2%. The measurement signal applied to the outer cylinder of the probe is a low-distortion sine wave at a frequency of 10 kHz. The amplitude is approximately 7 volts rms on the 1-20 range and 0.7 volts on the 1-200 range. The frequency is crystal-controlled and is, therefore, stable to approximately 1 part in 105. The dielectric constant of the liquid sample is determined by measuring the current between the outer and inner cylinders of the probe. With a stable voltage source and precisely known probe parameters, it is possible to display the dielectric constant directly. Calibration is simple using the back panel adjustment with a liquid of known dielectric constant.
Autotitrator for NanoBrook Zeta Potential and Particle Size Analyzers
The BI-ZTU Autotitrator option for Brookhaven’s
NanoBrook zeta potential and particle size analyzers
is ideal for analysis of zeta potential as a function of
pH, and automatic determination of the isoelectric
point, or IEP, of colloidal materials. Four pumps
provide unparalleled flexibility for optimizing
reagent use. The dramatic savings of reduced labor
costs enables larger scale studies that will produce
more valuable results.
Software
The NanoBrook 21CFR Part-11 Compliance Software
The NanoBrook 21CFR Part 11 Compliance software is for use with the family of NanoBrook light scattering instrumentation. This software has the ability to assign users with specific roles that are password protected to ensure that the measurements performed are tracked to a specific user. Other requirements to be compliant to 21CFR Part 11 include the ability to log activities by user and maintain the integrity of data by preventing any manipulation of it.
ParSEC GPC/SEC Software
ParSEC is a powerful new suite of software for multi detector, macromolecular characterization and represents the most significant development in GPC/SEC analysis. ParSEC is compatible with ALL GPC/SEC systems and detectors. Many attractive and practical features have been written into the new software for the benefit of chromatographers, including “function specific” views, ensuring the uncluttered display of information relevant to the task at hand, customizable display and annotation options for all graph types, plus a Database approach for practical storage and archiving of data and results associated with any application.
Particle Explorer
Particle Explorer is an advanced data acquisition and analysis program used with our BI-200SM Research Goniometer, which gives you an in-depth look at your DLS and SLS data.
Particle Solutions
Particle Solutions is a robust suite of software that integrates five measuring technologies in one package: DLS, ELS, PALS, ASEC and μRhe.
Chromatography Detectors
BI-DNDC Deflection Type Refractometer
The BI-DNDC is a deflection type refractometer that may be purchased for use in either batch or GPC/SEC mode. In batch mode, the specific refractive index increment, dn/dc, is determined. This value is required as a parameter in molecular weight measurements using light scattering. In GPC/SEC mode, dn/dc is already known, and the instrument is used as a concentration detector for GPC/SEC applications.
All major features are user programmable in order to achieve the maximum flexibility. The BI-DNDC can be set using the front panel controls and read using the LED readout or by an external computer. It includes a microprocessor, which allows user-friendly handling of all functions of the instrument, as well as refractive index and temperature data transfer to a personal computer via a standard serial interface.
BI-MwA Molecular Weight Analyzer
Quickly, easily, and accurately determine absolute molecular weights of proteins and polymers
The BI-MwA has the highest performance/price ratio of any light scattering detector used for molecular weight determination. Eliminate SEC/GPC column calibration and improve data quality. Rapidly reduce uncertainty with no assumptions required and true extrapolation to zero angle.
BI-RIVS Refractometer & Viscometer
The BI-RIVS is a combination RI and Viscometry detector used in SEC/GPC determinations of the MWD using universal calibration.
A true Dual-Detector, refractometer and viscometer, the only one of its kind available. The refractometer is an integral component of the viscometer bridge, measurement of concentration AND viscosity take place on the exact same sample segment, at the very same time. Compared to the more common “external” connection of the two detectors, the BI-RIVS Dual-Detector provides a factor of 2 to 5 higher sensitivity, near ZERO delay volume and unsurpassed overall performance.
There is no need to wait for the sample “breakthrough” (the negative signal you can expect after each injection) or to adapt an “internal delay” to the number of columns you use like other viscometer designs require. The Dual-Detector will match any application you might think of, with any solvent, at any temperature up to 80°C.
