Stony Brook Scientific Ltd. (SBS) is the world’s leading manufacturer of falling needle viscometer products, in any scientific and engineering fields, requiring accurate fluid property measurements. SBS viscometers are the industry standard for viscosity measurements. The company was founded in 1991, and has its corporate headquarter located in Norristown, Pennsylvania, USA. Stony Brook Scientific, Ltd. has brought together an impressive group of advisory staff members and professors from well known universities for the development of new scientific equipment. SBS’s continuing goal is to be a presence in the market place as the standard for viscosity and other fluid property measurements.
Viscometers
Disposable Viscometer
The DV-100 Disposable Viscometer consists of a main system and a disposable sample insert tube (or reusable) filled with the liquid of which the viscosity is to be determined. Viscosity of the sample can be determined by measuring the time of fall of a needle through a predetermined distance of the fluid held in the sample insert tube. The falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the needle. For Non-Newtonian fluid, a computer program is available from SBS.
Portable/Disposable Viscometer
The PDV-100 and PDVa-100 Portable/Disposable Viscometers consist of a support stand and a disposable sample tube filled with the liquid of which the viscosity is to be determined. Viscosity of the sample can be determined by measuring the falling time of a controlled needle through a predetermined distance of the fluid held in the sample tube. The falling time is measured automatically (PDVa-100) or manually by a stopwatch (PDV-100).
High Pressure High Temperature Viscometer
The High Pressure High Temperature Viscometer (HPHTV) consists of a metal needle with hemispherical ends falling vertically in a fluid with its longitudinal axis along the axis of a cylindrical container. A measurement of the needle terminal velocity allows a determination of the viscous properties of the test fluid. With the HPHTV the needle falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the needle.
Falling/Controlled Needle Viscometer
The Falling Needle Viscometer (FNV) consists of a metal or glass needle with hemispherical ends falling vertically in a fluid with its longitudinal axis along the axis of a cylindrical container. Also, the Controlled Needle Viscometer (CNV) consists of a metal needle with hemispherical ends and its top end is connected to the extension bar plus the weight holder. The CNV is the same as the FNV except for the needle dropped. A measurement of the needle terminal velocity allows a determination of the viscous properties and density of the test fluid. The falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the needle. The CNV comes with a small sample insert kit for those cases when the sample supply is limited. For Non-Newtonian fluid, a computer program is available from SBS.
Caulking Viscometer
The Caulking Viscometer consists of a support stand and a disposable sample tube filled with the liquid whose viscosity is to be determined. Viscosity of the sample is determined by measuring the falling time of a controlled needle through a predetermined distance of the fluid held in a sample tube. The falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the weight holder (CV-100), laser sensors (CVa-100) or manually (CVm-100). For Non-Newtonian fluid, a computer program is available from SBS.
Ultra High Pressure Viscometer
The Ultra High Pressure Viscometer (UHPV-100) consists of a metal needle with hemispherical ends falling vertically in a fluid with its longitudinal axis along the axis of a cylindrical container. A measurement of the needle terminal velocity allows a determination of the viscous properties of the test fluid. With the UHPV-100 the needle falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the needle.
High Temperature Viscometer
The High Temperature Viscometer consists of a support stand with an electric heater and a sample tube filled with the liquid whose viscosity is to be determined. Viscosity of the sample is determined by measuring the falling time of a controlled needle through a predetermined distance of the fluid held in a sample tube. The falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the weight holder. For Non-Newtonian fluid, a computer program is available from SBS.
Portable Field Viscometer
The new PDVdi-120 Portable Field Viscometer consists of a viscometer main body with a reusable syringe (tube) and a falling needle attached to an extension bar with two markings. The viscosity of the sample is determined by measuring the falling time of a needle through a predetermined distance (between two markings on the extension bar attached to the needle) within the fluids held in the reusable syringe. The falling time can be measured manually by a stopwatch. The viscometer includes a viscometer main body with two reusable syringes, a falling needle, a stopwatch, a digital thermometer, an instruction manual and a carrying case.
Sealed Viscometer
The new SV-100 Viscometer consists of a viscometer main body with sealed measuring chamber and temperature control water jacket. The viscosity of the sample is determined by measuring the falling time of a needle through a predetermined distance within the fluids held in the sealed chamber. The falling time is measured automatically by means of Hall sensors and a magnet in the needle. For Non-Newtonian fluid, a computer program is available from SBS.
